Welcome to the DeployBoy blog. This is the beginning of a journey. My journey. My journey into blogging about technology, mostly about deployment but I suspect I will digress into other areas over time given the huge range of subjects areas.

What is Deployment

What is deployment? Well I mainly mean automated installation of Operating Systems, but limited to those made by Microsoft. Other Operating Systems are available but I’m not interested in them now!

The subject of deployment stretches to more than Operating Systems though. It covers applications, scripts, updates and hotfixes and even scripts. With modern IT there are multiple ways to do the same thing. There’s the easy way, the hard way, the old-fashioned way and the trendy way. And then there’s the best way. My role on this blog is to tease out the most suitable, most supportable and, ideally, the least expensive way.

The are two main product I will blog about: Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2012 (ConfigMgr) and Microsoft Deployment Toolkit 2013 (MDT). The first product is often called SCCM, but oddly enough Microsoft never call it that, so I’m going to stick with the word ConfigMgr. Note, this product is not for the faint hearted. The PDF manual alone is longer than the novel War and Peace, coming in at 2045 pages.

War and Peace 587,287
ConfigMgr 650,000

I don’t have all the answers but with your help and contributions together I am here to help find the answer.

And so the journey begins.
